Hola World! Welcome to our ReFi Costa Rica conversation. My name is Lila Behr, I am a passionate social entrepreneur and just completed my university in London. I was born and raised on an organic farm in Costa Rica, but spent half of my life in Germany where my parents are from. But ultimately, I am a world citizen who deeply cares about the future of our world and the next generation. I am very excited to have hosted these two first episodes of our Pura Vida Hour with ReFi Costa Rica. Ep 1 featured Danibelle Bellavita from Diamante Bridge Collective and the second session featuring Karla Córdoba Brenes
Cambiatus co-founder, both of them are founders behind ReFi Costa Rica, a node.ReFi stands for Regenerative Finance and DAO stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organization, an emerging intersection that aims to connect novel funding streams from the Web3 space to regenerative projects and people creating positive impact on the planet.
This is an open space that introduces these people and projects to those who seek to learn from the pioneering leadership converging in Costa Rica.
Our Context
As we are collectively raising towards the achievement of the Agenda 2030 goals defined by the UN, large amounts of capital are being pooled into financing mechanisms that channel those funds through organizations like ReFi Dao to reach the people on the ground doing the work.
As many of you probably know, Costa Rica is a powerful voice in the global south for such a tiny nation - we are basically the Switzerland of the global south, with 5% of the biodiversity in the world as our neighbors.
Costa Rica is leading the way in Ecological Restoration - legislation in the 90’s for regeneration and gas tax funds this work. This reversed the incentives for farmers from burning down the jungle for cows to protecting primary rainforests and restoring the ecosystem.
San Jose is in the Central Valley and already a hub of regenerative projects around the country that have decades of experience in permaculture, agroforestry, municipal relations and indigenous respect.
We aim to support and promote social, economic, and environmental regeneration, traditional approaches to finance, which have often prioritized short-term profit and ignored the long-term consequences for communities and the planet. This may include investments in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, green infrastructure, affordable housing, and community development projects.
The purpose of these conversations is to educate and share with the world what is not only possible, but already happening and being tracked on the blockchain. Over the next few weeks I will be interviewing experts and founders in the field of regeneration, community building and bioregional awareness. You as a listener will have the opportunity to tune in and also participate in our conversation. Please feel free to ask questions in the chat & we will answer the questions during the conversation or at the end of the twitter space.
